Dirty linen n Politics
I no this sounds like a dry n uninteresting topic. I dun have a degree in Politics but still, I have my views as a Singapore citizen. I will make this as objective as possible.
I believe our government which include the 2 opposition parties have done tremendously for Singapore. I cherish my virgin vote as a Singapore citizen. I din think that I would take it so seriously but if u are living in my area, u might feel the heat too. Both the PAP n opposition parties r strong candidates in my area. Thus my dilema.
I agree that PAP has made Singapore a safe n good country to live in. Kudos to Old Lee. It's him that place our tiny island on world map, a force not to be reckon with. Without him, I think we still be some rural island without an identity. Most caucasians would still think Singapore is a province in China (they still do). But I strongly believe that as a democratic country, we should have some 'worthy opposition' parties in the government. But I do not wanna end up as one of those Singaporeans who vote for opposition for the sake of showing our grudges against the government. We should vote sensibly. Look at chee n his #@%$ party, I m sorry but I cant find any reason y they should be around. I have a elderly relative who stay in that estate n voted for them as she wants PAP to know that they are citizens who r unhappy with the government policies. But have they ever consider if many think like them n some hooligans get into the parliament, wat would happened?
There might be chairs throwing, fights, vulgarities in the parliament shown live in CNN ( like Taiwan). How proud can we get? In an instant, I would apply for citizenship in any neighbouring countries n denied ever belonging in this uncivilised state. And for those who think our government r paid too much, think again. U pay peanuts, u get monkeys. Our govenment would be bribed easily n we ll end up like some corrupted neighbouring countries. Do u want that? Think again.
On the contrary, I was disappointed abt the comments n policies that our government made. Calling opposition 'the suicide team', n that a very high profile minister who got 66% votes claim he's very happy that it shows strong mandate is disappointing. Shouldnt a high profile minister be aiming for higher?
PAP should brush up on their political skills. Please do give the opposition due respect. They represent us too (2 winning opp parties) n deserve proper working office n treatment. Stop offering upgrading as carrots to gain votes. We pay tax n it's our money too, so whoever wins can help make our neighbourhood a better place to live in. We are not rabbits so cut the carrot seduction in our next election . And unfortunately for the residents in the 2 opposition constitutions, nothing much would be done to improve yr lifestyle. I deemed that totally unfair n undemocratic. Coz one senior person in the government whom I truly respect claim that the oppositions just citicize n do nothing. Does that mean that only the PAP have access to the money n whoever the citizens elect to represent us (the opp) mean nothing at all. R we really a democratic country. Well, give them some credits, they have been winning consecutively, doesnt that say something positive abt them.
We need better governement, which means Lau, Chiam n the rest of PAP have the task to work together to improve n make Singapore a better place to live in.
Definitely Singapore has lotsa room for improvement. Instead of critising at what could have been better, take a look n see wat our government has done for Singapore. If we need to pay 50% tax to our government, I m sure a lot of things would be better, medical, welfare etc.... Do u really want to pay that kinda tax? I've travelled widely n m still proud to be a Singaporean. This is not some shithole that some disgruntled ass holes claim. They can nvr be pleased anyway. Look at things from a bird's eye view instead of just ur own personal selfish interests.
